The STC Atlanta Chapter has made arrangements for two excellent optional events for conference attendees. Explore Atlanta during your down time at the conference. If you have already registered for the Summit, but want to sign up for these events email Barbra Sanders at barbra.sanders@stc.org.
Members of the Atlanta Chapter have also written articles for Intercom magazine suggesting tourist activities attendees can undertake on their own before or after the Summit. See the links below to read more.

Oakland Cemetery Tour
Sunday, 5 May
To experience a uniquely beautiful look at Atlanta history, join us for a walking tour of Oakland Cemetery, one of Atlanta’s oldest green spaces. Opened in 1850, the garden cemetery features winding paths, large shade trees, flowers and shrubs, and appealing vistas. The cemetery was created for the living as well as the departed.
You will hear the stories of some of Oakland’s “residents,” including some of the most famous figures from Georgia history: author Margaret Mitchell, golfer Bobby Jones, and Mayor Maynard Jackson. You will see impressive art and architecture in many styles: Victorian, Greek Revival, Gothic, Neo-classical, Egyptian and Exotic Revival. Elaborate mausoleums, soaring sculptures, and effusive inscriptions speak of an age when the bereaved found consolation in extravagant expression.
As a special treat for writers, the tour will explore some of the fascinating epitaphs that grace the monuments of Oakland. Whether brief or rambling, poignant or humorous, all provide insight into the person’s life.
Oakland is also the place to see some of Atlanta’s finest tree and plant specimens—especially in May! Magnificent oak, magnolia, and dogwood trees complement delightful antique roses and seasonal bulbs.
Wear comfortable shoes. Tour will be held rain or shine, except if there are thunderstorms or other severe weather conditions.
Sunday, 5 May
Meet in Hyatt Regency Atlanta lobby at 12:45 PM for a 1:00 PM departure, return to the hotel at approximately 3:30PM
Cost: $24 includes tour and transportation
Registration cutoff: Sunday, April 14
